REVIEW:
When I requested to read and review this book, I was expecting something light, a cute friends to lovers story that would be easy to read and bring a smile to my face. Well, When Joss Met Matt did bring a smile to my face but in a totally unexpected way.
When the book opens, its starts in the now, when Joss has realized how much Matt really means to her after seven years of being friends. The story unfolds in a series of flashbacks giving the reader a perspective on how they met and how their deep friendship developed and what the hell Sorbet sex was (see this in itself, will get your ass back in to the story).
Although only a dense person cannot know how this story would end, the way everything was put into place tells more of a journey on how two people slowly fell into friendship then into love and how you can easily muck it all up because of Sorbet sex (well that one was the fringe benefit). It's the not communicating what they really felt that got them into trouble. Which in life is all too real. Because real life love is scary and sometimes you think you need to settle and just take what you can rather than losing everything. Thankfully Joss and Matt realized that you can lose everything when you won't take the risk . The fun thing about this book, was the zippy dialogue, the humor that pervades, the poignancy and that feeling that this can happen beyond the pages of a book, even the happy ending.
ABOUT WHEN JOSS MET MATT:
In the tradition of New Adult superstar Jessica Sorensen, Ellie Cahill’s debut novel is a charming friends-with-benefits story . . . with a twist!
What if after every bad breakup, there was someone to help “cleanse your palate”—someone who wouldn’t judge you, who was great in bed, someone you were sure not to fall in love with? “Sorbet sex” could solve everything—as long as it never got too sweet.
Joss and Matt have been friends since freshman year of college, meeting one night after Joss is dumped by her boyfriend. After a few drinks, Matt humors her with a proposition: that he’ll become her go-to guy whenever she needs to heal a broken heart. In return, she’ll do the same for him. The #1 Rule: They’ll never fall in love with each other. People scoff at the arrangement. But six years later, Joss and Matt are still the best of friends . . . with benefits.
Through a string of boyfriends and girlfriends—some almost perfect, some downright wrong—Joss and Matt are always there for each other when the going gets tough. No strings. No attachments. Piece of cake. No problem. After all, since they wrote the rules, surely they can play by them. Or can they?
