Sneaking Candy by Lisa Burstein

Sneaking Candy
Sneaking Candy, the title can be misleading, it would probably make you think of a naughty erotica story. Well there was some naughty bits delving on the erotica but Sneaking Candy is more about a confused young woman trying to get her mojo back and finding out if she's really cut out to be a serious literary author. Never mind that she's actually an up and coming self published erotica writer with lots of fans and some great 5 star reviews (the one star ones don't really count). It also doesn't help that she feels some sort of attraction to her professor but what about her favorite barista who can't make a decent Chai latte but can just about melt her panties off with just a look? Her life is just about to get more interesting.  Told in the first person point of view,  Lisa Burstein's Sneaking Candy was a fun, extremely sexy and engaging new adult contemporary romance.   I love, love, love the character of Candace aka Candy. I love how self-aware she is and how her lack of self-confidence is the culprit in the many chances she hasn't taken in life.  A female lead that is snarky and flawed is perfect.  James and Professor Dylan, as a reader you too would be confused on who is right for our Candy.  These two are also kind of symbolic of the way Candy's writing is going to veer towards.    The tone of the book was excellent, the pacing just right with dialogues that just zing and is funny and witty. Being more character driven rather than plot driven, there was a part in the book that the story wasn't really moving forward and felt like it stalled. But it did pick up a bit and had an interesting twist right at the end. Fans of romantic comedy would definitely love this one.

All I ever wanted was to make a name for myself as Candice Salinas, creative writing grad student at the University of Miami. Of course, secretly I already have made a name for myself: as Candy Sloane, self-published erotic romance writer. Though thrilled that my books are selling and I have actual fans, if anyone at UM found out, I could lose my scholarship…and the respect of my faculty advisor, grade-A-asshole Professor Dylan.

Enter James Walker, super-hot local barista and—surprise!—my student. Even though I know a relationship is totally off-limits, I can’t stop myself from sneaking around with James, taking a few cues from my own erotic writing…if you catch my drift. Candy’s showing her stripes for the first time in my real life, and I’ve never had so much fun. But when the sugar high fades, can my secrets stay under wraps?

You never know what you really would be getting when reading a Catherine Bybee book.  On the outside, each book can definitely hold its own as a great contemporary romance novel.  Read a little bit further, you get well-defined, multilayered characters and a romantic suspense in the making. Pretty soon you will be amazed on the intricate storyline balanced well with the main characters developing romance.  Fool Me Once is definitely a Catherine Bybee book.  The first in her new series, First Wives,  Fool Me Once is also a spinoff from her popular Weekday Bride series.  And yet again, Ms. Bybee delivers in her great characters, well thought out plot and melding her two series together without one overpowering the other.
The story starts out as the head of Alliance and their legal go to person, Lori try to help one of their client who unexpectedly lost her husband.  To get her away …
